Moving to California by Train, 1980
"Travel by Train and See the Country!" Well, except that what you'll see are trainyards, and no-account folks living on the wrong sides of the tracks, and blighted badlands. And it only costs somewhat more than flying.

View from the departing train station: "Bleah, raining." I had planned to ride my bicycle to the station, but got someone to give me (and my bike) a ride there instead.

I had paid for a private cabin, since I was going to be on the train for 3 days. Incredibly small, but amazingly cunning, in a Transformers kind of way.

California
"Hey, there's a bit of color!" This was shortly after dawn, and actually, you can't imagine how much it cheered me up to see those purple bushes.

"And some more! Yay!" In the end, my bicycle was temporarily lost in transit (?), and my motorcycle was in the moving van, so I called Dr. Brunjes, who came to pick me up, and loaned me a car. Nice guy.

Taken through my actual picture window! You can (barely) see the Hollywood Sign and the Griffith Park Observatory.
