House Ear Institute Wedding Shower, 1982

The guys at the House Ear Institute threw us a great party a few weeks before our wedding. I think their Staff Photographer took these pictures, but at any rate they gave us the slides to have afterwards.
I remember thinking at the time, "Who still takes slides?" But then I remembered that often we would see slides during all-hands meetings, so it made sense. And I thought that I remembered something about the dyes in color slides being very stable.
So, Sylvia squirrelled the slides away and kept them lo these many years, and she brought them to me a few days ago, and said, "You've been scanning in a lot of pictures. Can you do anything with these?"
And the thing is, I *do* have a scanner, that *did* come with a slide-reader attachment. I couldn't find the attachment, but I remembered reading someone saying that he never used the atttachment anyway, because it raised the slide further away from the glass of the scanner, maybe degrading focus.
I think that they came out rather well. A slide may be small, but the scanner's supposed to have a genuine optical resolution of 2400 lines per inch, so by the time you've blown it up about 4x to a 4x6, you still have almost 600 lines per inch, which isn't bad at all.
The pictures might have a bluish cast; I haven't yet attempted to do anything about that.

Tom and Sylvia

Tom and Sylvia

It looks to me as if I still, in this picture, had to think quite a bit about each sign.

Karen and Judy were both Audiologists, I think. Ed was our medical illustrator, and just incredibly friendly and funny. This picture makes me laugh every time.

Another great smile, almost Mona Lisa-grade. Was the Mona Lisa also eating cake?

Mike is in the background, rightmost. He took a glass-blowing course, and made me a little tiny motorcycle out of glass, which the darn cats destroyed almost at once.

Jerry Greene, That Lady and The Writer

I am trying to remeber the writer's name. She worked as a receptionist while going to school, but was also an actual literary writer - I've been to public readings of her work.
