I came home one day, and Gary and Patti couldn't stop laughing: Dave had caught her first mouse, a baby one so small that at first they thought that she might have stalked and killed another melon rind. Dave was so proud, and Patti was so inspired that she had painted this that morning. But she couldn't remember what Dave's belly looked like, and Dave was suspicious and wouldn't let her see.

A friend of Gary and Patti's -- the drummer for of the Red Rockers, and before that, Rotten Beethoven. The Red Rockers practiced at our house several times. The first time this happened, the cats seriously got religion: I found them all huddled on the same level of the cat tree, looking out at me with bright, terrified eyes.
