Of course...how silly of me. This would be like saying "King is dead, long live King". What I meant, of course, is "The Catten is not, long live The Catten". I'm sure there will only ever be The Catten, tho', and not another one. ;-) So now, we can get into the pedantry of whether or not "The" should be capitalized or not I suppose...

I appreciate these words, and yet am such an incorrigable pedant that I must now provide an important Usage Note: one does not use Catten as if it were a proper noun - it is more of an honorific title, such as "Swedish Ambassador".

So, one will write "...the Catten...", or "Poor little Catten", or even "Who's a medium-sized Catten?" - these are all completely correct. But not, "Look, it's Catten": in that sentence, we'd either say "the Catten", or just "Tony".

And now, having just written the above, can you believe that the computer wants me to log in and prove that it's me? As if anyone else would write two paragraphs on Proper Catten Usage.

You might be surprised at how much we follow the Catten story. You knew from the first it might not last, and I think maybe that's why he was so precious. I know it sounds trite, but it's those of us that are left behind that feel the pain. Catten is not. Long live Catten!
